Abbe Hyde is the Manager Library Engagement at the University of Otago Library, based in the Information Services Building, 65 Albany Street, Dunedin 9016. She leads the Engagement team under Customer Experience, focusing on enhancing library services for students and academic staff. In a University of Otago news release on April 23, 2025, Hyde highlighted the importance of student interaction with library resources, explaining that greater engagement allows libraries to better tailor services to user needs, including features like green service desks now standard across Otago libraries. She also commented on the February 9, 2026, policy change to eliminate late fines for overdue books, describing borrowing blocks as a more equitable measure that applies uniformly, in line with trends among public and university libraries globally.
Abbe Hyde earned a Master of Commerce in Management from the Department of Management, Otago Business School, University of Otago, in 2015. Her thesis, "Entrepreneurship for future transport," was supervised by Sara Walton. Hyde contributed to research on sustainability transitions in transport as part of the Energy Cultures programme and Centre for Sustainability. She co-authored "Destabilisation and decline of existing regimes: the role of entrepreneurs in the NZ transport industry" with Dr. Sara Walton, examining entrepreneurs as change agents who drive innovations including electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, low-emission vehicles, biofuels, car sharing, bike sharing, charging systems, battery management, alternative fuels, and rail systems. The work details how these actors promote regime destabilisation through technological substitution, de-alignment, and transformation pathways, facilitated by learning, expectation articulation, and social network development. In 2016, Hyde co-authored "Entrepreneurial Actors in Transport Systems: An Energy Cultures Report" with Sara Walton and Vibhuti Patel, published by the University of Otago Centre for Sustainability under the Energy and Management academic units.
