Abbie Strunc is a Professor of Education and Associate Dean for Academic Administration and Enrollment in the College of Education at Sam Houston State University. She previously served as Chair of the School of Teaching and Learning at the university. Strunc earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum Studies from the University of North Texas in 2014, an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University, College Station, in 2005, and a B.S.A. in History from Texas A&M University, College Station, in 2003. Prior to her academic career in higher education, she taught social studies, including government and economics, at Duncanville High School in Duncanville Independent School District from 2004 to 2015. She joined Texas A&M University-Texarkana as Assistant Professor of Education in August 2015.
Strunc's research specializations include teacher preparation, curriculum planning with an emphasis on study abroad experiences for pre-service teachers, citizenship and democratic education, teacher efficacy, discourse analysis, early career teacher mentoring, and equity in the curriculum.
