Ablaye Camara serves as Associate Professor of Economics within the Business & Economics faculty at the University of Detroit Mercy. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Wayne State University, as well as an M.A. in Economics, an MBA, and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Detroit Mercy. Camara teaches an extensive array of economics courses, including Microeconomic Principles, Macroeconomic Principles, Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, International Monetary Analysis, Business Forecasting, and Advanced Statistics for Data Analytics. His academic career at the University of Detroit Mercy encompasses both teaching and advising student capstone projects, such as the Prediction Model of Second-hand Automobile Price by Ruijia Du, Big Data Collection and Development of Forecast by Ningxuan Chen, Yelp Rating System by Jacob Thurston, and The Forecast of Gold Price Trend Based on Data Analysis by Cheng Jin Sun.
Camara's research interests center on China’s strategic international economic policies, with ongoing work examining the updates and influences of the “China Going-Out Policy.” His specializations include Labor Economics, Health Economics, and International Economics. He has authored several publications, including "US and Allies’ Response to China’s Offensive in Africa: The Complex Equation of Cooperation and Immigration" in the Journal of Business and Educational Leadership (Spring 2023), "China’s Going Out Policy in Numbers: Economic Impacts and Political Implications" (lead author with Victoria Mantzopulos) in the Journal of Business and Behavioral Sciences (Vol. 35, No. 1, April 2023), and “Network Effect as a Competitive Edge: What have we learnt from the literature?” (second author with Yu Peng Lin) in the Journal of Strategic Innovation and Sustainability (Vol. 15, No. 7, 2023). Camara has presented his research at prominent conferences, such as the American Society of Business and Behavioral Sciences (February 2023), where he received the Best of Tracks Paper Award, the Robert Morris 34th Annual Teaching Economics Conference (February 2023), and the Midwestern Economic Association 87th Annual Conference (March-April 2023). Among his honors, he was inducted into the University of Detroit Mercy Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020, recognizing his achievements as a scholar-athlete.
