Professor Adolfo Paolini serves as Dean of the School of Law at the University of Buckingham, where he holds the position of Professor in Corporate and Insurance Law. His academic qualifications include an LLB as Abogado from Venezuela, an LLM in Commercial Law from Cardiff University, a PhD from the University of Southampton, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE). Prior to his deanship, Paolini was a law lecturer at the University of Buckingham for 13 years. He also works as an Insurance Law Consultant for Clyde & Co LLP, an international law firm with presence in over 50 jurisdictions, providing expertise in directors’ and officers’ liability insurance, international insurance disputes, and the Latin American insurance market. Furthermore, he is Vice Chairman of the civil liability insurance working party for the Association Internationale de Droit des Assurances (AIDA). Paolini leads modules in Banking and Fintech and Company Law at the university.
Paolini’s research interests focus on corporate law, insurance law, financial regulation and services, fintech, and artificial intelligence. His scholarly contributions include editing the Research Handbook on Directors’ Duties (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2016, ISBN 9781784711511) and co-authoring Directors and Officers Liability Insurance with Deepak Nambisan (Informa Professional, London, 2008), which won the British Insurance Law Association Prize for Best Book in 2009. Key chapters feature “The Dieselgate Scandal Watched with D&O Spectacles” in The Dieselgate: A Legal Perspective (Springer, 2017, ISBN 978-3-319-48323-8) and contributions to Professional Negligence and Liability (Informa Law, various editions).
