Dr. Adrian Chiong Yuh Tiong serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Chemical and Energy Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Science at Curtin University Malaysia, Miri, Sarawak Campus. He holds the role of Program Coordinator for Petroleum Engineering. Adrian earned his Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Petroleum Engineering and his PhD from Curtin University Malaysia, with the PhD conferred in 2023. His academic career is focused on advancing knowledge in chemical and energy engineering through teaching and research at this institution. As a registered member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), he contributes to professional engineering standards and practices.
Adrian's research specializations include cellulosic nanomaterials, enhanced oil recovery (EOR), graphitic materials, and renewable energy. His investigations delve into sustainable materials and processes for energy applications, such as stabilizing oil-in-water Pickering emulsions using macroalgae-derived regenerated cellulose and modifying graphene nanosheets with κ-carrageenan for improved functionality. Key peer-reviewed publications authored or co-authored by him are: 'Macroalgae-derived regenerated cellulose in the stabilization of oil-in-water Pickering emulsions' in Carbohydrate Polymers (2020); 'Facile asymmetric modification of graphene nanosheets using κ-carrageenan as a green template' in Journal of Colloid and Interface Science (2022); 'Study on the synergism of cellulose nanocrystals and janus graphene oxide for enhanced oil recovery' in Geoenergy Science and Engineering (2023, volume 221, article 111242); and 'Facile Multilayer Deposition of Polyethylenimine and κ-Carrageenan on Graphene Oxide Hybrid for Efficient Pb(II) Adsorption' in ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering (2024). He has also presented at conferences, including 'A Mechanistic Study of Surfactants, Particles, and Polymers on Foam Stabilization' in IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering (2019) and 'A mini-investigation on Enhanced Oil Recovery Evolution (2007–2020)' in MATEC Web of Conferences (2023). Adrian's accolades include the Bronze Award from the Novel Research Innovative Competition 2017 at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), a Letter of Commendation, and inclusion on the Dean’s List for Advanced Drilling Engineering. His contributions support innovative solutions in energy recovery and sustainable materials, influencing advancements in petroleum and renewable energy sectors.
