In his leadership role at the Staff Club, Adrian Lowrey empowers his team to manage day-to-day operations, providing support from behind the scenes and conducting regular check-ins. Executive Chef Steve Richardson and Food and Beverage Supervisor Bruno Benson have expressed appreciation for his approach, stating they are 'very lucky' with their team and boss.
Adrian Lowrey played a key role in the 2023 refresh of the Union Dining Hall, transforming it into Auahi Ora. The project featured new couches, armchairs, bookcases, colourful rugs, plants, updated chairs and tables, and a consolidated single servery replacing three prior counters. It also includes a stage area with upgraded audio-visual equipment, including a sound system and large screen, suitable for presentations, movies, music videos, sports events, or quizzes. Lowrey described the changes: “It’s more comfortable and inviting than the seating and tables we had previously. We’re trying to create a space to gather … to come and relax and enjoy each other’s company, a place for students to take a break.” Auahi Ora serves as a student hang-out space until about 6pm on weekdays, then as an events venue for live music, residential college functions, staff celebrations, Otago University Student Association and club activities. He invites feedback for future budget-constrained improvements.
