About Adriana

Adriana Rios Lopes earned a master's degree in Biochemistry from the University of São Paulo in 1999, with a thesis titled Caracterização das tripsinas de insetos, and a doctorate in Biochemistry from the same institution in 2004, with research on Serina-endopeptidases de insetos e a interação inseto planta. She serves as Scientific Researcher VI at the Instituto Butantan in the Laboratory of Biochemistry and maintains affiliations with postgraduate programs at the University of São Paulo, including supervision of students in Biotechnology and related fields. Her work centers on the molecular physiology of arthropods, with particular attention to digestive processes and envenomation in arachnids and insects such as spiders, scorpions, ticks, and mites. Research activities emphasize enzymatic studies of carbohydrases including fucosidases, chitinases, hexosaminidases, and mannosidases, along with lipases and peptidases of various classes, protease inhibitors, and molecules offering biotechnological applications or potential as insecticides. She holds CNPq research productivity fellowship level 2 and has contributed to multiple funded projects through FAPESP on topics including the regulation of proteolytic activity in arachnid digestion and the exploration of arthropod digestive systems for novel enzymes.
