About Ahmed

Professor Ahmed Ali Alraeesi serves as Vice Chancellor and Professor of Hydrogeology at United Arab Emirates University. He holds a Ph.D. in Hydrogeology from Western Michigan University in the United States. With more than two decades of academic experience, Professor Alraeesi has held several senior positions at the university, including Associate Provost of Research, Chair of the Geology Department, Vice Dean and Dean of the College of Science, Acting Dean of the College of Education, and Acting Vice Chancellor.

His research focuses on hydrogeology, water resources, and isotope hydrology, with an emphasis on sustainable water management. Professor Alraeesi has authored over 70 publications in internationally peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings and has delivered more than 100 presentations at national and international conferences. He contributes to national and international initiatives on water sustainability and science policy as a founding member of the UAE Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme National Committee and a board member of the UAE Water Aid Foundation. He has participated in the Permanent Consultation Mechanism of the Groundwater Governance Project, served on the Emirates Scientists Council and the National Committee on Combating Desertification, and was appointed by UNESCO to the Advisory Board for Open Science. Professor Alraeesi also led UAEU initiatives at COP28.
