Dr. Aiedah Abdul Khalek is a Senior Lecturer and Academic Lead for General Studies at the School of Pathways and Immersion, Monash University Malaysia, and an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the School of Arts and Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in Islamic Governance (Social Science) from Universiti Malaya awarded in 2016, focusing on halal consumption among Generation Y Muslims. Her other qualifications include a Master of Shariah (Politics) from Universiti Malaya (2003), a Bachelor of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage from International Islamic University Malaysia (2010), and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from Monash University (2019). Recognized as a Senior Fellow of Advance Higher Education (SFHEA) since 2024, she leads General Studies units as convenor, unit coordinator, and chief examiner, employing interactive online learning strategies such as video lectures, forums, and assessments. She serves on the Early Career Researcher Committee at the campus level and as an External Committee Member in the Curriculum Development Committee at the Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya.
Dr. Khalek's research expertise lies in religion and contemporary social life, including halal in society, religious tolerance, racial integration, social cohesion, and interdisciplinary intersections between religion, medicine, and social sciences. She leads the project 'A Model of Combating Disease-Related Stigma in Malaysia: Engaging Religious Institutions and Health Experts,' examining trust toward religious leaders and medical practitioners on stigmatized diseases like epilepsy and HIV. Her publications include the book Halal Governance: The Theory and Realities of Halal Food Consumption in Malaysia (2024, co-authored with S.H.S. Ismail Al-Qudsy), the edited book Philosophy and Current Issues: A Comprehensive Reference for Higher Education Students (2024, co-edited with A. Wong Wei Wei), the chapter 'Governing Halal in Malaysia: Innovation towards Customer Interests and Satisfaction' (2025), 'Religious Tolerance through the Lens of Halal Dining Experience in Malaysia' (2022, Malaysian Studies Journal), and 'Unlocking Sociocultural and Community Factors for the Global Adoption of Genomic Medicine' (2022, Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases). She has presented at international conferences and contributed to NGO seminars.
Among her honors are Supervisor of the Year (2025), PVC Excellence in Education Award (2021, team), Bronze Medal in the International Science and Social Science Innovation Competition (2021), Silver Medal for Research Instrument in Innovation Contest (2019), and Best Paper Award at the 2nd International Conference on Sociality Culture and Humanities (2014). Dr. Khalek accepts PhD supervision in religion, society, nation-building, halal consumption, ethnic and multi-religious relations, and related multidisciplinary areas.
