Dr. Ajay Sharma serves as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Dentistry and Oral Health, part of Griffith University's School of Medicine and Dentistry. He is the Program Director for the Master of Dentistry Program and the Implantology Lead, overseeing advanced training in implant dentistry. Sharma obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) degrees from institutions in India, completing his postgraduate education in 2008. Prior to his current role, he held a position as a Senior Lecturer at a reputed dental school in India, where he contributed to teaching and research in dentistry.

Sharma's academic interests center on periodontology and implant dentistry, encompassing peri-implantitis therapies, surgical and non-surgical interventions, implant surface modifications such as chitosan and keratin coatings, photobiomodulatory effects on wound healing, probiotics in periodontal management, and the bidirectional relationship between diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease.
