Dr Ala Yankouskaya is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Bournemouth University. She holds a medical background and completed her second PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Birmingham (School of Psychology) in 2012. Prior to her appointment at Bournemouth University, she held postdoctoral and senior postdoctoral positions at the Centre of Cognitive Neuropsychology at the University of Oxford and a lectureship position at Liverpool Hope University.
Her research focuses on social cognitive neuroscience and neuroimaging. She investigates the cognitive and brain mechanisms underlying human perception and attention, with a particular emphasis on how social factors modulate perceptual decision-making and integrative processes in the brain. Additional research interests include the computational and neural basis of these processes, their reliability, and their role in guiding social behaviour. Her work employs methods such as fMRI and addresses topics including face perception, self-representation, and functional connectivity. Dr Yankouskaya serves as Programme Leader for the MSc Cognitive Neuroscience and is affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Research Centre at Bournemouth University.
