Rate My Professor Alberto Salleo

Alberto Salleo is the Hong Seh and Vivian W. M. Lim Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University, where he also serves as Professor of Photon Science and Senior Fellow at the Precourt Institute for Energy. He earned his PhD in Materials Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 2001. Salleo’s research focuses on novel materials and processing techniques for large-area and flexible electronic and photonic devices, with particular emphasis on polymeric materials for electronics, bioelectronics, and biosensors, as well as electrochemical devices for neuromorphic computing and advanced characterization of soft matter.

He previously chaired the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford from 2019 to 2025 and was appointed Deputy Director for Science and Technology at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in 2025. His honors include election as a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors in 2024, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2024, Materials Research Society Fellow in 2023, and the Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching from Stanford University in 2016. Salleo maintains an active research group investigating charge transport in organic semiconducting materials and related applications in biosensing and neuromorphic computation.
