Prof. Aletta Bester-van der Merwe is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics at Stellenbosch University. She holds a B.Sc. (cum laude), an M.Sc. Agric (cum laude), and a Ph.D. Agric. Her research focuses on population and conservation genetics, with particular emphasis on marine conservation through the Shark and Ray Genetics laboratory within the Molecular Breeding and Biodiversity Group.
