About Alex

Professor Alex CHAN Chi Keung serves as the Dean and Professor of the School of Arts and Humanities at Tung Wah College, having joined the institution in July 2022. He holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Sociology from Hong Kong Baptist University, a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Psychology from the same university. Prior to his current role, Professor Chan was an Associate Professor in the Department of Counselling and Psychology at Hong Kong Shue Yan University, where he also served as Director of University Research, Associate Director of Industrial Attachment, and Chairperson of the Human Ethics Research Committee. He founded the Positive Psychology Laboratory at Hong Kong Shue Yan University. At Tung Wah College, he is Co-Director of the Translational Research Centre for Digital Mental Health, contributing to advancements in mental health research and applications.

Professor Chan's research interests encompass cyberpsychology, digital mental health, positive education, positive psychology with a focus on meaning in life and self-compassion, positive technologies, and psychology of religion and spirituality. His scholarly impact is evidenced by numerous awards, including the 2019 Distinguished Contribution SSCP Student Poster Award (as co-author) at the 31st Association for Psychological Science Annual Convention, the 2017 Association of Educational Communications and Technology Presidential Award (as Vice President of HKAECT), the 2013 Best Paper Award (as co-author) from the Journal of Educational Leadership in Action, and the 2013 Distinguished Paper Award (as corresponding author) from the International Symposium on Education and Psychology. Key publications include the co-edited Proceedings of the Positive Psychology 2.0 International Conference 2025 (Atlantis Press, 2025), Leung et al.'s 'Chatbot interventions for improving mental health among people in Asia: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials' (BMJ Health Care Informatics, 2025), Su et al.'s 'Immersive virtual reality-based intervention for psychological wellbeing among older adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis' (PLOS Digital Health, 2026), and co-editorship of a special issue on 'Promoting mental health in school and community settings' in Healthcare (upcoming). As Chairman of organizing committees, he led the Positive Psychology 2.0 International Conference 2025 and the Positive Technology International Conference 2023, fostering global dialogue on positive psychology and technology in mental health.
