Always goes above and beyond for students.
Alex Christos serves as Architect and Designer in the Campus Development Division at the University of Otago. He joined the Campus Development team in February 2023, bringing over nine years of professional experience in architecture. Christos holds a Bachelor degree and a Master degree in Architecture from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He maintains professional registration as an architect in Australia and New Zealand. Prior to his appointment at the University of Otago, Christos worked on high-end residential projects across Melbourne and Central Otago. He also delivered education projects, including new-builds and refurbishments for primary and secondary schools as well as university projects.
Christos focuses on socially-responsive design, sustainability, and built heritage. He contributes to fostering a vibrant, sustainable, and architecturally exciting university campus for students and staff. In his role, Christos has participated in refurbishing large lecture theatres at the University of Otago, such as Castle 2. He described the pre-renovation configuration as featuring long wooden tables with fold-up seats installed in the early 1990s. The upgrades provided individual seats with foldaway tables, nearby power plugs, and comfortable seating with colourful, hardwearing fabric covers designed for easy removal and replacement.
