Alex Witherow is the General Assistant in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Otago, listed under teaching and research support staff. The Department of Anatomy, part of the Division of Health Sciences, is based in Dunedin and explores human biology, development, movement, function, memory, and population issues through research groups including the Anatomical Sciences Education Research Team, Biological Anthropology Group, Clinical Anatomy Group, Neuroscience Group, and Reproduction, Genomics and Development Group.
Alex Witherow contributes to anatomy education by fabricating components for teaching models documented on the department's Anatomy Teaching Models wiki. He created the wooden base of the padded carry case for the Burlesque Brain model in 2020. For the String Art model in 2016, he provided wooden boards on which strings depict axon tracts and neurons in neuroanatomy. Additionally, for the Wooden Knees model in 2016, he prepared the wooden elements used in this joint anatomy teaching tool. These contributions support undergraduate teaching in the department.
