Associate Professor Alexander Eapen serves as Associate Professor of Strategic Management in the Research School of Management at the Australian National University, part of the College of Business and Economics. He holds a PhD in Strategy from Tilburg University, The Netherlands. Before joining ANU in 2012, Eapen was a faculty member at the University of Sydney Business School from 2005 to 2012. His academic career focuses on strategic management and international business, with particular emphasis on multimarket competition between firms, knowledge spillovers from foreign direct investment, and knowledge transfers in strategic alliances. Eapen teaches courses such as MGMT8022 Strategic Management and MGMT3015 Corporate Strategy, primarily to MBA and executive education students.
Eapen's research has been published in premier journals including Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies, Economic Modelling, and Journal of Business Research. Notable publications include "Transferring tacit know-how: Do opportunism-safeguards matter for firm boundary decisions?" (Organization Science, 2019), "Finance constraints and technology spillovers from foreign to domestic firms" (Economic Modelling, 2019), "FDI Spillover Effects in Incomplete Datasets" (Journal of International Business Studies, 2013), and "Delayed Forbearance: Multipoint contact and mutual forbearance in inaugural and subsequent competitive actions" (Journal of Business Research, 2022). His work has garnered international recognition, with his doctoral thesis a finalist for the Gunnar Hedlund Prize (2007), the Verity Award (2009), selection as groundbreaking scholarship by JIBS editors, finalist for the Alan Rugman Young Scholar Prize (2015) and Carolyn Dexter Award (2017), and winner of the CEIBS Best Paper Award (2019). Additionally, he received Best Reviewer Awards and the 2023 ANU College of Business and Economics Award for Excellence in Research Engagement and Social Impact. Eapen serves on the editorial review boards of Journal of World Business, Global Strategy Journal, Journal of Business Research, and Australian Journal of Management. His external engagements have secured over $1.2 million in funding for ANU, including major grants from the Department of Defence.
