About Alexander

Professor Alexander Green is Professor of Neurosurgery in the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences at the University of Oxford and a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He graduated from University College London with an MB BS in 1997 and a BSc (Hons) in Neuroscience in 1994. He completed neurosurgical specialty training in Oxford and became a consultant in 2009. He holds an MD degree and the FRCS (SN) qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons of England awarded in 2007.

His research focuses on neuromodulation, particularly deep brain stimulation and its effects on autonomic function, chronic pain, and consciousness. He leads clinical trials including the EPIONE trial for post-stroke pain and studies involving transcranial focused ultrasound. Green is President of the British Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery and serves as Academic Director of the Surgical Interventions Trials Unit. He has received awards including the New Investigator Award from the International Neuromodulation Society and the Gordon Holmes Prize from the Royal Society of Medicine. He teaches neuroscience to undergraduates and postgraduates and supervises DPhil students.
