Professor Alexander F. Mason is a DECRA Fellow at the University of Wollongong in the School of Science, Medicine and Health. His research focuses on synthetic cells, block copolymers, and complex coacervates, with work centered on creating artificial cells and biomimetic compartments through physical chemistry approaches. He founded the Synthetic Biomimetic Compartments Group at the University of Wollongong in 2023.
Mason has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, including the Journal of the American Chemical Society and Nature Communications, covering topics such as hierarchical self-assembly of copolymer-stabilized coacervate protocells, mimicking cellular compartmentalization, and engineering transient dynamics of artificial cells.
