Dr Ali Amrollahi, FHEA, is a Senior Lecturer in Business Information Systems in the Department of Actuarial Studies and Business Analytics at Macquarie Business School, Macquarie University. He holds a PhD in Information Systems, a Master of Information Technology Management, and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education. Amrollahi began his academic teaching career in 2013 at institutions in Australia and the United Kingdom. Since joining Macquarie Business School in 2020, he has led the Cybersecurity Governance major, designed and delivered the "Blockchain for Business" unit, and successfully supervised PhD and MRes students to completion. His teaching emphasizes metacognitive approaches to emerging technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence, enhancing business students' understanding of technology's organizational impact.
Amrollahi's research specializes in digital strategizing, the strategic impact of emerging technologies, technology governance, openness, digital innovation, and strategy. His publications appear in top-tier journals, including the Journal of Strategic Information Systems ("Digital strategizing: An assessing review, definition, and research agenda," 2022, with J. Morton and A.D. Wilson; "Harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence: affordances, constraints, and strategic implications for professional services," 2024, with J. Yang and M. Marrone), Information & Management ("OSPM: A design methodology for open strategic planning," 2018, with B. Rowlands), Technological Forecasting and Social Change ("Artificial intelligence adoption in a professional service industry: A multiple case study," 2024, with J. Yang and Y. Blount), and Computers in Human Behavior ("A multi-method approach to examining consumer intentions to use smart retail technology," 2021, with S.M. Fazal-e-Hasan et al.). He has received awards such as the ACIS 2023 Best Theory Paper (with M.A. Mofrad), MQ ECR Showcase 2023 Best Research Pitch, MQBS Staff Excellence Awards 2025 (with M. Marrone), and Macquarie Business School Award for Education Excellence 2025. Amrollahi serves as section editor for the Australasian Journal of Information Systems and track chair for ACIS conferences (2020–2024). He has given invited talks including "The strategic impact of disruptive innovation on modern organisations" (2022), "World grounded theory day, Australasian virtual panel" (2021), and "The Impact of IT-enabled Openness on the Outcomes of Strategy-Making" (2020). His work has been featured in Macquarie's The Lighthouse and implemented in international organizations, underscoring its academic and practical influence.
