Rate My Professor Ali Elkamel

Professor Ali Elkamel is a Professor of Chemical Engineering and Chair of the Chemical & Petroleum Engineering Department at Khalifa University. He earned a BSc in Chemical Engineering and a BSc in Mathematics from the Colorado School of Mines, an MSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado-Boulder, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering with a specialization in Process Systems Engineering from Purdue University. His research centers on the development of theory and applications in process systems engineering, including planning and scheduling of process operations, energy production, pollution monitoring and control, waste minimization, carbon management, sustainable operations, molecular design, and product formulation. Current projects emphasize energy systems, integration of renewable energy, and the application of data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to enhance process and enterprise efficiency.

Professor Elkamel teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in optimization techniques, mathematical methods for chemical engineers, applied statistics, numerical methods, systems engineering, process design, industrial ecology, and engineering economy. He has supervised over 75 master’s students, 45 PhD students, and more than 45 postdoctoral fellows and research associates. He has received the Outstanding Faculty Award, Best Teacher Award, IEOM Outstanding Service and Distinguished Educator Award, membership in the UAE MBR Academy of Scientists, the Engineering Research Excellence Award, and the Excellence in Graduate Supervision Award. His publication record includes over 450 journal articles, 185 proceedings papers, 50 book chapters, and five books, such as Environmentally Conscious Fossil Energy Production, Planning of Refinery and Petrochemical Operations, and Electric Vehicles in Energy Systems: Modelling, Integration, Analysis, and Optimization. He serves on program and organizing committees for international conferences and has delivered invited lectures at academic institutions and conferences worldwide.
