Professor Alister Jones is Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Waikato. He previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Education and Research Professor, as well as Professor of Education and Director of the Center for Science and Technology Education Research. He holds a DipT and BSc from the University of Otago, an MSc and PhD from the University of Waikato, and is a Member of the Royal Society of New Zealand (MRSNZ). His academic background is in science and teaching.
Professor Jones has conducted research in technology education and science education, including work on models for teacher development in technology education and reviews of the developing field of technology education. He was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor in 2011 with responsibility for research and has led on international engagement for the university. He has contributed to numerous publications in these areas and held roles such as Senior Research Fellow and Associate Professor earlier in his career at the institution.
