Allan Eberhart is a Professor of Finance in the Business & Economics faculty at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, serving as Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Programs in Finance and founding director of the Master of Science in Finance (MSF) program, launched in 2014 as the school’s inaugural technology-intensive degree. He has held prior roles including Senior Associate Dean for Technology-Intensive Education, founding Academic Director of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) Executive Education Program, and Finance Area Coordinator. Eberhart also serves as Faculty Associate with the Psaros Center for Financial Markets and Policy and was inaugural Director for the BondBloxx exchange-traded funds. His academic background includes a B.A. in business administration and economics from Thomas More College, an M.A. in economics from the University of Cincinnati, a Ph.D. in finance from the University of South Carolina, and an Ed.D. in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, he taught as a Visiting Assistant Professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business, delivering a core MBA finance course, and has consulted for organizations such as A.T. Kearney, Ashmore Group, Barclays, Goldman Sachs, and Standard & Poor’s.
Eberhart specializes in finance, with dozens of publications in premier journals including The Journal of Finance, The Review of Financial Studies, and Journal of Accounting Research. Key works encompass “An examination of long‐term abnormal stock returns and operating performance following R&D increases” (The Journal of Finance, 2004, with W.F. Maxwell and A.R. Siddique), “Security pricing and deviations from the absolute priority rule in bankruptcy proceedings” (The Journal of Finance, 1990, with W.T. Moore and R.L. Roenfeldt), “A reexamination of the tradeoff between the future benefit and riskiness of R&D increases” (Journal of Accounting Research, 2008, with W. Maxwell and A. Siddique), and “The equity performance of firms emerging from bankruptcy” (The Journal of Finance, 1999, with E.I. Altman and R. Aggarwal). He has acted as Associate Editor for the Journal of Banking and Finance and Journal of Financial Research, penned op-eds for Bloomberg Businessweek, Forbes, Fortune, and The Wall Street Journal, and received the Georgetown University School of Business Research Award alongside multiple teaching honors and recognition in Businessweek’s ranking of favorite business school professors. His leadership has elevated the MSF to global prominence, shaping innovative finance education.
