Allysson Pontes Pinheiro serves as a professor at the Universidade Regional do Cariri in the Departamento de Ciências Biológicas. He earned a bachelor's degree in Ciências Biológicas from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte in 2000, a master's degree in Ciências Biológicas (Zoologia) from the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho in 2004, and a doctorate in Ecologia e Recursos Naturais from the Universidade Federal de São Carlos in 2008. He completed postdoctoral research at the Universidade de São Paulo from 2008 to 2011.

At URCA, Pinheiro holds the position of professor associado and coordinates the Laboratório Crustáceos do Semiárido. He directs the Museu de Paleontologia Plácido Cidade Nuvens and serves as scientific director of the Araripe UNESCO Global Geopark. In 2024, he was elected to the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council. He previously served as president of the Sociedade Brasileira de Carcinologia for the 2021-2022 and 2023-2024 terms. His work centers on zoology, with emphasis on the taxonomy, systematics, ecology, and paleontology of crustaceans, including studies of both living and fossil decapods from the Araripe Basin.
