Amanda Knapp, Ph.D., serves as Professor of Chemistry at Mars Hill University, holding appointments in both the Chemistry and Biochemistry departments. Her office is located in Ferguson 239. She earned a B.S. from Xavier University in 2006 and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from The University of Akron in 2011. During her graduate studies, Knapp investigated silver N-heterocyclic carbene complexes, exploring their potential as antimicrobial and anticancer agents. Her research contributions include co-authorship on the publication "In vitro antimicrobial studies of silver carbene complexes: activity of free and nanoparticle carbene formulations against clinical isolates," published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy in 2012. She was recognized as an outstanding graduate student at The University of Akron for her work on the delivery of anti-cancer silver carbene complexes via encapsulated nanoparticles.
At Mars Hill University, Knapp has demonstrated significant leadership within the academic community. She served as Chair of the Faculty from academic year 2020/21 through 2022/23, contributing to university governance and initiatives such as the Quality Enhancement Plan steering committee, which focused on enhancing students' problem-solving skills. Her involvement in professional chemistry organizations traces back to her undergraduate years at Xavier University, where participation in the American Chemical Society fostered her career development, networking opportunities, and leadership abilities. Knapp completed a term as chair of the Women Chemists of the Atlantic City Section around 2019. She actively mentors students, including those in the Judge Robert Blackwell Scholars program, and engages in campus events such as commencement ceremonies and the Student Liberal Arts Mosaic research showcase.
