His research specializations include craniofacial development, osteopenia/osteoporosis, genetics of mineralized tissue, cartilage development and degeneration, cleidocranial dysplasia, mineral metabolism, and regulation of bone adiposity. Javed has secured funding from the National Institutes of Health, including support for the Dental Academic Research Training (DART) Program. In 2025, he was named a Fellow of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research.
