A master at fostering understanding.
Ana Kasparian, known professionally as Ana Kasparian, is a lecturer in the field of Communications at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), specializing in broadcast journalism education. As an alumna of CSUN, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism awarded in 2007 and a Master of Arts degree in Political Science and Government. Her academic journey at CSUN inspired her career in journalism and education, leading her to return to her alma mater as a part-time faculty member. Kasparian began teaching in the Fall of 2013, delivering courses like Journalism 415: Television News on Mondays from 12:00 P.M. to 3:15 P.M., with office hours immediately prior. Her syllabus highlights the prerequisite of grades of “C” or better in JOUR 315 and 325, underscoring her commitment to building on foundational skills in reporting, writing, editing, and producing for television news. In her classes, she places strong emphasis on journalistic ethics and the critical role of journalists in holding authority figures accountable, lessons drawn from her own high-profile media career.
Beyond the classroom, Kasparian has made significant contributions to the media landscape as the co-host, producer, and executive producer of The Young Turks (TYT), a progressive online news show that she has co-developed since 2007 into one of the largest online daily news and politics programs globally. Her work on TYT, including as fill-in host for the Fusion network iteration, has garnered millions of viewers and established her as an anti-establishment truth teller in digital media. Kasparian's journalistic output includes regular columns for Raw Story, op-eds in The New York Times and Time Magazine, and appearances on programs such as The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. Her achievements have been honored with placement on Forbes' 30 Under 30 list in the media category in 2016, a Webby Award for Best Web Personality and Host, and a Streamy Award for Best News and Culture Show. In March 2026, CSUN announced her nomination to the inaugural class of the Journalism Alumni Hall of Fame, recognizing her pioneering role in digital journalism. Through her teaching appointments and media influence, Kasparian bridges academia and professional practice, impacting both students and broader public discourse.
