Andrzej Baranski is Associate Professor of Economics in the Division of Social Science at New York University Abu Dhabi, where he serves as Director of the Social Science Experimental Laboratory (SSEL). He earned a B.S. in Economics from Universidad de Costa Rica in February 2009 and both an M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from The Ohio State University in August 2015. His academic career includes an appointment as Assistant Professor of Economics at the School of Business and Economics, Maastricht University, from August 2015 to August 2018, prior to joining NYU Abu Dhabi as Assistant Professor of Economics in August 2018, with promotion to Associate Professor. Baranski's research integrates game theory and experimental economics to examine collective decision-making processes where cooperation and coordination are critical. His work highlights the importance of equity and fairness in achieving efficient outcomes and explores the endogenous emergence of these principles, as well as institutional conditions favoring efficient self-organization over centralized authority.
Baranski has published in prominent journals, including 'Communication in Legislative Bargaining' with John H. Kagel in the Journal of the Economic Science Association (2015), 'Collective Redistribution' in the American Economic Journal: Microeconomics (2016), 'Endogenous Timing of Profit-Sharing Negotiations and Production' in Experimental Economics (2019), 'A Comprehensive Analysis of Baron and Ferejohn Majoritarian Bargaining Experiments' with Rebecca Morton in Experimental Economics (2022), and 'Communication in Multilateral Bargaining with Joint Production' with Caleb A. Cox in Experimental Economics (2023). Additional forthcoming work includes 'Majoritarian Bargaining over Budgetary Divisions and Policy' with Nicholas Haas and Rebecca Morton in the Journal of Politics. His accolades encompass the Abu Dhabi Young Investigator Award from ADEK (2020), REF Grant from NYU Abu Dhabi (2019, co-PI), Louis-André Gerard-Varet Prize (2017), Professor’s Fund Limburg Research Grant (2016-2017), and Graduate Associate Teaching Award in Economics from The Ohio State University (2014). Baranski teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in industrial organization, microeconomics, experimental economics, and behavioral economics at NYU Abu Dhabi.
