Andy Harper serves as Senior Lecturer in Fine Art within the School of Art at Goldsmiths, University of London. His academic qualifications include a BA in Fine Art Painting from Brighton Polytechnic (1990-1993), an MA in Fine Art Painting from the Royal College of Art (1993-1995), and an MA in Visual Culture from Middlesex University (1997-1999). Harper's artistic practice centers on painting, with his work featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally. Notable solo exhibitions include 'Any Way Up' at Patrick Heide Contemporary Art in London (25 September - 8 November 2025), 'Radial Symmetries', a solo exhibition of paintings (2023), 'The Mandalas' at Anima Mundi (2023), 'Parallel Botany' at Carol Corey Fine Art (2022) and at Patrick Heide Contemporary Art (2021), 'Sol' (2016), 'Archaeology in Reverse' at Newlyn Art Gallery in Cornwall (2013), 'Towards a New Architecture' (2011), 'An Orrery for Other Worlds' (2010), and 'Solo Show: New paintings and works on paper' at Danese gallery in New York (2009). He has also presented work at Morgen Contemporary in Berlin and Page Gallery in Seoul.
In group exhibitions, Harper's paintings have been selected for the Contemporary British Painting Prize 2024 at BayArt, Cardiff (14 September - 19 October 2024), 'A New Nature' at James Freeman Gallery (9 May - 1 June 2024), John Moores 24 at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool (2006), East End Academy at Whitechapel Gallery in London (2009), Latitude Festival Art Prize, Danielle Arnaud Galleries in London, and Galway Arts Centre in Ireland. His professional development includes a fellowship at l'Ecole Cantonale d'Art du Valais in Sierre, Switzerland, as well as participation in the Thupelo Workshop in Cape Town and the Braziers International Artists' Workshop in Oxfordshire. Publications associated with his work encompass the exhibition catalogue 'Cloud and Vision' (2005), a review in 'mix' independent art and culture magazine (2002, 27(3)), and a feature as artist in Tank magazine (1998, 2). Through his teaching on the MFA Fine Art programme and extensive exhibition history, Harper contributes significantly to contemporary painting and art education.
