About Aneesha

Dr. Aneesha Bakharia is a Senior Lecturer with a teaching focus in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science within the Engineering faculty at the University of Queensland. She concurrently serves as Principal Practitioner for AI in Education at the Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation. Her academic background encompasses a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Microelectronic Engineering, a Master of Digital Design, and a Postgraduate Diploma from Griffith University; a Postgraduate Diploma in Open and Distance Learning from the University of Southern Queensland; and a PhD in automated content analysis from Queensland University of Technology, pursued after developing a fascination with machine learning in 2010. Originally an electronics engineer, Bakharia transitioned into educational software development, accumulating broad experience in higher education and vocational sectors through technical positions, innovation project management, and learning analytics roles. She previously held the position of Senior Manager of Learning Analytics at the University of Queensland.

Bakharia's research specializations include AI in education, generative AI, machine learning for automated content analysis, learning analytics dashboards, and educational technology, with teaching responsibilities in web and mobile development, programming, and data science education. She has produced 37 scholarly works, comprising 9 journal articles, 26 conference publications, and 2 book chapters, alongside authoring 9 books on programming and web development. Key publications feature 'Teaching with GenAI: a TPACK-based case study in web and mobile development education' (2025), 'Large language models meet user interfaces: the case of provisioning feedback' (2024, Computers and Education: Artificial Intelligence), 'Intelligent learning analytics dashboards: automated drill-down recommendations to support teacher data exploration' (2021, Journal of Learning Analytics), 'Re-imagining peer assessment in self-paced online learning environments' (2020), and 'Scaling qualitative insight: An agentic workflow for analysing student voices' (2025). In 2017, she contributed editorially to the International Journal of Innovation in Science and Mathematics Education. An early pioneer in generative AI, Bakharia has created AI-generated graphic novels and explored chatbot prompt engineering to advance educational innovation.
