Angela Hendershot is Assistant Professor of English at Zane State College. In 2025, she received the NISOD Excellence Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, which honors faculty and staff for their outstanding commitment to student success and their college community. Nominated by her students, Hendershot exemplifies dedication to student achievement through her inspiring teaching approach, accessibility, and empowerment of students both in and outside the classroom. She will be recognized at NISOD’s annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence in Austin, Texas. Executive Dean of Arts and Sciences Deb Hysell praised her, stating, “Professor Hendershot’s creativity and commitment to students are inspiring to all of us at Zane State. She is so deserving of this award.” Student nominator Dianne Morehead added, “Angela goes above and beyond to make sure her students know she cares and wants to help them succeed. She makes time for her students—she’s always willing, no matter what she has going on, to answer questions outside of class. And the biggest thing of all—she encourages her students to use their creative imaginations!”
Hendershot has shared her perspective on student retention in the Faculty Voices Project video, highlighting Zane State College's early intervention plan that identifies at-risk students and supports their return to the classroom. As advisor for the campus Book Club and Phi Theta Kappa's Alpha Alpha Alpha Chapter, she fosters student engagement and leadership. In March 2017, she delivered a public lecture titled “What Would Harry Do? Is Harry Potter a Christian Hero?” at Zane State College. Hendershot articulated her passion for teaching, noting, “Students are the most important part of what I do. My desire to be the type of teacher they deserve has only been fueled by their hard work in my classroom. The fact that my students nominated me for this award floors me. I’ve been incredibly blessed to be part of their journey. But I am also grateful to be part of an incredibly wonderful and caring team of people at Zane State College who truly believe in our mission and our students. This has been an amazing journey for me and I can’t be more thankful to get to continue working with students on their journey to achieve their dreams.” Her contributions underscore her integral role in advancing the college's mission.
