About Ann Marie

Ann Marie Navar, M.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Population and Data Sciences at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and a member of the Division of Cardiology. She specializes in preventive cardiology. Originally from Corpus Christi, Dr. Navar holds a bachelor's degree in Spanish from the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her doctorate in global disease epidemiology and control at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She earned her medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine, completed a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Duke University, and completed a cardiology fellowship at Duke University. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease, Dr. Navar joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2021.

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Navar serves on numerous committees, including Internal Medicine Residency Recruitment, Cardiovascular Residency Recruitment, the DOM Search Committee, the EPIC Optimization Committee, the School of Public Health Space Planning Committee, and the School of Public Health Data Science Planning Committee. Her research interests include cardiovascular disease prevention and epidemiology, mining real-world data including information available in electronic health records, and risk prediction and communication. She serves as an associate editor of JAMA Cardiology and is a board member of the American Society for Preventive Cardiology. Dr. Navar is the author of numerous published articles and is frequently invited to guest lecture. In 2021, she received the Meritorious Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. In 2020, she became a Fellow of the American Society for Preventive Cardiology. She also holds additional honors including Next Gen Innovator from Cardiology Today in 2017, the Jeremiah Stamler Award in 2016, the Joseph C. Greenfield, Jr., MD Scholar Award in 2016, and election to Alpha Omega Alpha in 2015.
