Ann Ranson is an Associate Lecturer in Language and Learning within the School of Education at Murdoch University, where she also functions as a Learning Advisor. Her expertise spans Psychology, Education at all levels, Exercise Science, Movement and Wellbeing, Curriculum Design, and Academic Skills. Ranson possesses a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario in Canada and a Graduate Diploma in Education. With over 20 years in teaching, she commenced as an ESL teacher, progressed to lecturing at TAFE, and held positions at other colleges and universities. Since her appointment at Murdoch University in 2010, she has undertaken roles as a tutor, associate lecturer, and learning advisor, with a primary emphasis on delivering communication skills training and participating in the Career Learning Spine program. Her commitment to student development is evident in her dual focus on classroom teaching and individualized advising.
Ranson harbors a strong interest in teaching methodologies and pursues research in academic language and learning. She contributed to the publication Becoming Engaged: A Guide to Tutoring at Murdoch University, authored by Ann Lefroy and Rhondda Tilbrook in 2011. Furthermore, she has presented at key events, including the 16th Biennial Association for Academic Language and Learning Conference in 2023 with colleagues Stephen Johnson, Rajeni Rajan, Melissa Smith, Sangay Wangchuk, and Phillip Arena on topics related to learning and teaching experiences, as well as the WA Teaching and Learning Forum 2024 as part of the Support for Academic Learning Team. As a member of this team, which supports academic literacy across the university, Ranson plays a vital role in enhancing student communication and learning outcomes. Her work underscores a dedication to fostering effective academic practices and student engagement at Murdoch University.
