Ann Rowson Love is Professor of Arts Administration in the Department of Art Education at Florida State University College of Fine Arts, where she serves as Associate Chair, Ringling Museum Liaison, and Director of the MA and PhD programs in Museum Education and Visitor-Centered Curation. She earned her PhD in Art Education from Florida State University in 2013, MA in Visual Art Education with a minor in Art History from the University of Kansas in 1997, and BS in Elementary Education and Art History from the University of Kansas in 1991. Love's career encompasses over 30 years as an art museum educator and curator. She was Founding Curator of Education at the Morris Museum of Art (1993-1996) and Ogden Museum of Southern Art (2000-2006), Director of the Southeast Institute for Education in the Visual Arts (1997-2000), and Director of Museum Studies at Western Illinois University-Quad Cities (2008-2014), where she initiated a graduate program at the Figge Art Museum. At FSU, she joined as Assistant Professor in 2014, advanced to Associate Professor in 2018, and continues to develop visitor-centered exhibition programs.
Love's research focuses on visitor studies, art museum interpretation, collaborative curatorial practices, edu-curation, and systems thinking in museums. She has co-authored key books including An Introductory Guide to Qualitative Research in Art Museums (2024, with Deborah Randolph), Dimensions of Curation: Considering Competing Values for Intentional Exhibition Practices (2023, with Pat Villeneuve), Systems Thinking in Museums: Theory and Practice (2017, edited with Yuha Jung), and Visitor-Centered Exhibitions and Edu-Curation in Art Museums (2017, with Pat Villeneuve). Her contributions include numerous chapters and articles on exhibition evaluation and inclusive practices. Awards include the Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award from Western Illinois University (2010) and the Marylou and Ernestine Kuhn Scholarship (2006). She serves on editorial boards for Art Education and Journal of Art for Life, as associate for the International Journal of the Inclusive Museum, and reviews grants for the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Love presents internationally in Barbados, Denmark, Italy, Hungary, Japan, and Turkey, advancing museum education globally.
