Anna Goodman earned her PhD from the Department of Art History at Indiana University Bloomington in 2014. Her dissertation, titled “Moretto da Brescia: viewing female spirituality in sixteenth-century Lombardy,” centers on four devotional paintings created by the north Italian Renaissance artist Il Moretto da Brescia during the 1540s and 1550s. The work explores viewing practices and representations of female spirituality in the religious art of sixteenth-century Lombardy.
During her time as a graduate student, Anna Goodman presented her research at scholarly conferences. In 2013, she gave a presentation titled “Holy Heroines: Il Moretto da Brescia’s St. Ursula in Context” at the Mid America College Art Association's 40th Annual Conference held in Columbus, Ohio. She also took part in the Southeastern College Art Conference in Sarasota, Florida, in 2014, engaging in sessions on artworks, networks, and materializing connectivity in art historical research. Additionally, Anna Goodman received a Future Faculty Teaching Fellowship in Fine Arts - Art History from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), recognizing her potential in academic teaching and scholarship.
Anna Goodman currently serves as Assistant Director at the Vincent and Elinor Ostrom Workshop on Political Theory and Policy Analysis at Indiana University Bloomington. Founded in 1973 by Vincent Ostrom and Elinor Ostrom—the 2009 Nobel laureate in Economic Sciences for her groundbreaking analysis of economic governance, especially the commons—the workshop is a premier interdisciplinary research center. It investigates polycentric governance, institutional dynamics, and policy solutions for managing shared resources, addressing contemporary challenges in areas such as environmental sustainability, cybersecurity, internet governance, data stewardship, and agrarian systems. The workshop supports graduate fellows, visiting scholars, and global collaborations, producing influential scholarship that shapes debates in political science, economics, and public policy. In this capacity, Anna Goodman contributes to the leadership and operations of this esteemed institution.
