Dr Anna Rose is a Lecturer in the School of Health Sciences, College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing, at the University of Newcastle, Australia. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) from the University of Newcastle. As an Occupational Therapist, she centers her teaching, clinical practice, and research on enhancing comfort for optimal living. Her research interests include comfort as an outcome of occupational therapy, psychosocial and physical aspects of comfort, health services research, interdisciplinary approaches, pressure injury prevention and management, primary health care, assistive technology, end-of-life care, and telehealth for chronic disease management. Dr Rose has led multiple research grants totaling $38,981, such as the 2024 HMRI Grant ($13,865) on therapist perspectives of pressure injury devices and e-support technologies, the 2022 School of Health Sciences grant ($4,984) for eHealth in pressure injury prevention, and the 2023 University of Newcastle project ($4,808) on technology for spinal cord injury and wounds.
Dr Rose coordinates courses including OCCT1201 Introduction to Occupational Therapy Practice and OCCT1110 Introduction to Occupational Therapy since 2017, and has supervised 10 completed higher degree research projects, such as honours theses on pressure injury prevention in the NDIS and assistive technology sustainability in schools. Her scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed articles like 'Evaluation of eHealth Interventions to Prevent Pressure Injuries: A Scoping Review' (International Wound Journal, 2025, co-authored with Ahmad AAK et al.), 'Ensuring correct fit and sustainability of assistive technology recommendations in schools' (Disability and Rehabilitation: Assistive Technology, 2026, with Lovell G et al.), 'Feasibility and acceptability of a culinary nutrition programme for adults with mild-to-moderate intellectual disability: FLIP Food and Lifestyle Information Programme' (Journal of Applied Research in Intellectual Disabilities, 2024, with Asher RC et al.), and 'Development of the Cook-Ed™ Matrix to Guide Food and Cooking Skill Selection in Culinary Education Programs' (Nutrients, 2022, with Asher RC et al.). Conference presentations feature 'What interventions are used by occupational therapists to enhance client comfort?' (Australian Occupational Therapy Journal, 2022) and clinician perspectives on pressure injuries (2025). Through these efforts, Dr Rose advances occupational therapy in comfort-focused care and health services.
