Dr. Anne Galletta is Professor and Chair of the Department of Educational Studies, Research, and Technology in the Levin College of Public Affairs and Education at Cleveland State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York. Prior to her faculty appointment at Cleveland State University in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Galletta worked as a language arts teacher at the middle school level and as a researcher and technical assistance provider at the Academy for Educational Development in New York City. She has progressed to her current role as department chair and is affiliated with the Center for Urban Education.
Galletta's research specializations include qualitative research methods such as ethnography, participatory action research, and oral history. Her academic interests focus on educational change within newly created small public high schools and desegregated schools, policy development, classroom practice, social context, social justice in education, youth engagement, and school restructuring. She collaborates with community-based organizations and public school systems on school reform research. Key publications include her influential book Mastering the Semi-Structured Interview and Beyond: From Research Design to Analysis and Publication (2013), which has received over 5,600 citations; The Semi-Structured Interview as a Repertoire of Possibilities (2013); Participatory Action Research in Education (2019); Toward Epistemological Ethics: Centering Communities and Social Justice in Qualitative Research (2018); The Intersection of Culture and Institutional Support for Latino Students’ Academic Success: Remediation or Empowerment? (2019); and Student Narratives on Relationship, Learning, and Change in Comprehensives Turned “Small” (2009). Galletta has received Cleveland State University service awards recognizing her long-term institutional contributions.
