Anne Rasmussen is a Professor of Political Science at King’s College London in the Department of Political Economy, a position she has held since February 2023. She is also Professor of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen since March 2016 and Professor II at the Department of Comparative Politics at the University of Bergen since August 2018. Rasmussen earned her PhD in Political Science from the University of Copenhagen in 2006, an MA in Political Economy with distinction from the University of Essex in 1999, and a BA in Political Science from Aarhus University in 1997. Her earlier career includes roles as Associate Professor at Leiden University from 2013 to 2021, Professor with special responsibilities at the University of Copenhagen from 2013 to 2016, University Lecturer at Leiden University from 2008 to 2013, and Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence from 2006 to 2008.
Her research focuses on interest groups and lobbying, political representation, public opinion, public policy, gender and politics, citizen engagement, democratic dialogue, social media, digital democracy, and political parties. As Principal Investigator, she leads the ERC Consolidator Grant project “Advocacy in Digital Democracy: Use, Impact & Democratic Consequences” (ADVODID) from 2023 to 2028. Key publications include “Gendered Perceptions and the Costs of Political Toxicity: Experimental Evidence from Politicians and Citizens in Four Democracies” with Gregory Eady in the American Political Science Review (2024), “Responding to Whom? An Experimental Study of the Dynamics of Responsiveness to Interest Groups and the Public” with Simon Otjes in the Journal of European Public Policy (2024), “Public Opinion Towards Interest Groups: The Differential Impact of Ties to Cause and Business Groups” with Stefanie Reher in the European Journal of Political Research (2024), and “(Inequality in) Interest Group Involvement and the Legitimacy of Policy-Making” with Stefanie Reher in the British Journal of Political Science (2023). Rasmussen is Editor-in-Chief of Interest Groups & Advocacy since 2022 and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of Public Policy, Journal of European Integration, and Acta Politica. She is an elected member of the Executive Committee of the European Consortium for Political Research (2021–2027) and has held steering committee roles in academic groups.
