Annemarie Conrath-Hargreaves is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at Monash University’s Department of Accounting, Monash Business School, a position she has held since joining the institution in 2018. She also serves as Deputy Director of Education. Her research interests center on public sector and sustainability issues, including the political economy of standard-setting, the impact of organisational and regulatory controls on employees, transparency, third sector accounting, and accounting history. This work has secured funding from the Australian Accounting Standards Board for the Service Performance Reporting Research Project (2024-2025) and from the International Public Sector Standards Board for the Presentation of Financial Statements in the Public Sector project (2020). Her contributions align with UN Sustainable Development Goals 8, 12, and 13.
Key publications include “This is not an experiment: using vignettes in qualitative accounting research” (Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, 2025), “Recursivity in standard setting processes: the measurement case of fair value and market value” (Public Money & Management, 2021), “Managing multiple institutional logics and the use of accounting: insights from a German higher education institution” (Abacus, 2019), “Multiple institutional logics and their impact on accounting in higher education: the case of a German foundation university” (Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, 2019), and the book “Harmonisierung der öffentlichen Rechnungslegung in der Europäischen Union: Analyse und Handlungsempfehlungen für EPSAS aus deutscher Sicht” (2016). Annemarie Conrath-Hargreaves has earned multiple awards for teaching excellence, such as the Dean’s Award for Education Excellence (Early Career Teaching, 2022), Dean’s Award for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (2024), Vice-Chancellor’s Education Excellence Award for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (2025), Dean’s PRME Team Award for Teaching Excellence (2019), and Accounting Department Resilience and Agility in Teaching and Learning Award (2020). She reviews for journals including Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal and Critical Perspectives on Accounting, and serves on the Scientific Committee of the European Accounting Association Congress (since 2020) and A-CSEAR (2025). As Chief Examiner for Accounting for Climate Change (ACX3800/5800), she teaches using standards like AASB S2, ISSB, and CSRD.
