Anri Lombard is an MSc student and researcher in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Cape Town. His research focuses on machine learning architectures for low-resource languages. He led the development of MzansiLM, a multilingual AI language model trained on data from all 11 official South African languages, in collaboration with Dr Jan Buys, Dr Francois Meyer, and a broader team. The project originated from his master’s research examining the performance of different language-model architectures in low-resource settings.
Lombard completed an MSc in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Cape Town. He has also worked as a machine learning engineer at Credeq.AI.
