Dr. Anshuman Khare is Professor of Operations Management in the Faculty of Business at Athabasca University, a position he has held since January 2000. He earned his D.Phil in 1989, MBA with a specialization in Operations Research in 1985, and BSc in 1983, all from the University of Allahabad, India. Khare began his professional career at the International Airports Authority of India as Staff Officer to the Chairman and Managing Director. He later served as Research Scientist (Management) for the University Grants Commission at the Motilal Nehru Institute of Research and Business Administration, University of Allahabad. He conducted post-doctoral research at Ryukoku University, Kyoto, Japan, as a Monbusho Scholar from 1995 to 1997, examining Just-in-Time business philosophy and responsible manufacturing in the automobile industry. Khare was a Research Fellow with the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung at Johannes-Gutenberg Universität Mainz, Germany, during 1998-2000 and 2007-2008, focusing on operations management strategies amid climate change regulations in the European Union automobile sector.
Khare's academic interests include operations management, supply chain management, innovation and technology management, sustainable development, environmental regulation impacts on industry, digital transformation, and smart cities. He teaches related courses online and in-residence, develops case studies, and led short courses for Athabasca University's Leadership and Management Development Program. He has authored three books, co-edited eleven books including a series on digital business transformation, and published over 125 refereed papers and articles. Key publications encompass 'Hydrogen: The Energy Source for the 21st Century,' works on greenwashing, and recent titles like 'Multi-facets of Smart Cities Governance Models' (2025). His honors include two Alexander von Humboldt Fellowships, Monbusho Scholarship, Craig Cunningham Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence (2003), Athabasca University Graduate Students’ Association Outstanding Distinction Award (2015), and Emerald Highly Commended Literati Award (2018). Khare serves on Athabasca University's Board of Governors as an Academic Staff Member, multiple committees, and held roles such as Interim MBA Program Director and Chair of the Department of Finance, Economics and Operations Management. He contributes to community initiatives, including chairing St. Albert’s Environmental Advisory Committee.
