Anthony DeLegge is Professor and Department Chair of the Mathematical and Computational Sciences at Benedictine University, where he also serves as Chair of the Heath Professions Recommendations Committee. A Benedictine University alumnus, he received his B.S. in Mathematics from the institution in 2005. He then pursued graduate studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, earning an M.S. in Mathematics in 2008 and a Ph.D. in Mathematics in 2010. DeLegge joined the faculty at Benedictine University in 2010 and has since progressed through the academic ranks to full professor while assuming key leadership responsibilities within the department.
DeLegge's research specializations encompass epidemiological models developed using systems of differential equations and studies in games and probability. Among his current projects are an analysis of the effects of vaccine misinformation on disease spread, begun in spring 2021; a modeling of social media competition in “Will Facebook Be #1 Forever?” which accounts for users participating on multiple networks; and “Come On Down! The Math Behind TV Game Shows,” which examines the mathematics and probability in shows like The Price is Right and Press Your Luck. He teaches a diverse array of undergraduate courses, including College Algebra, Calculus, Differential Equations, Discrete Mathematics, Theory of Interest, Special Topics in Graph Theory, Writing Colloquium, and Gambling in the U.S. Notable publications include “Mathematics in the Humanities: A Survey of Two Courses to Address Math Appreciation in Students” (PRIMUS, 2022); “The Math Games Seminar: A Mathematical Learning Community” (Journal of Humanistic Mathematics, 2021, with Ellen Ziliak); “Is this the end for Facebook? A mathematical analysis” (Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2017); and “The Man Who “Whammied” Press Your Luck” (Math Horizons, 2012).
