About Anthony

Dr. Anthony B. Halog serves as a Lecturer in the School of the Environment within the Faculty of Science at the University of Queensland. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Science from the University of Mindanao, a Masters (Research) of Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology, a Masters (Coursework) of Business Administration (Advanced) from Monash University, and a Doctoral Diploma from Karlsruher Institut für Technologie. Dr. Halog specializes in circular economy, sustainability engineering, industrial ecology, and life cycle assessment (LCA/LCSA). His research interests encompass circular economy and industrial ecology, life cycle assessment and sustainability metrics, green hydrogen, bioenergy, and clean energy transitions, sustainable waste management and circular bioeconomy, and systems modelling with AI-enabled tools and sustainability policy. He focuses on designing low-carbon, net-zero, and resource-efficient systems to tackle climate change, waste reduction, and sustainable development across energy, materials, food, waste, and policy sectors. Employing systems thinking, life cycle sustainability assessment, digital twins, and artificial intelligence, his work aids governments, industries, and communities in making evidence-based decisions to lower emissions, boost resource efficiency, and prevent unintended environmental consequences. A primary emphasis is converting linear value chains to circular ones, promoting green hydrogen, bioenergy, circular bioeconomy, agricultural waste valorisation, waste-to-energy, and sustainable materials.

Dr. Halog has produced over 130 peer-reviewed publications, including journal articles such as 'Circular economy across Australia: Taking stock of progress and lessons' (Circular Economy and Sustainability, 2021), 'Energy-economic-environmental cycle evaluation comparing two polyethylene and polycarbonate plastic greenhouses in cucumber production' (Science of the Total Environment, 2022), 'How to advance regional circular bioeconomy systems? Identifying barriers, challenges, drivers, and opportunities' (Sustainable Production and Consumption, 2022), and 'The necessity for end-of-life photovoltaic technology waste management policy: A systematic review' (Journal of Cleaner Production, 2024). Notable book chapters include 'Waste management sector’s contribution to meeting sustainable development goals: a social life cycle assessment approach' (2024) and 'Life cycle assessment of various process routes including biological processes for renewable fuel production' (2024). His contributions advance decarbonisation, climate resilience, sustainable supply chains, and the green economy through collaborations with policymakers, industry partners, SMEs, and Indigenous communities in Australia and abroad.
