Anthony Joffre is an assistant professor of accounting in the Business & Economics faculty at Rice University's Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business, where he joined in 2024. He earned his Ph.D. in Business with a concentration in Accounting from the University of Miami in 2024, a Master of Accounting in 2016, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance in 2015, all from the University of Miami. Prior to academia, he served as an Audit Associate at KPMG in Miami from August 2016 to February 2018, providing assurance services for public firms in quick-service restaurant and software industries, assisting with acquisition transactions, and ASC 606 implementations. He also worked as an Audit Intern at Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra from October 2015 to March 2016.
Joffre's research examines how uncertainty influences informational supply and demand, and how informational frictions affect stakeholders' consumption and allocation decisions. His broader interests include the impact of information production and consumption on capital allocation in public markets and the role of accounting standards in firm behavior. Key working papers include his job market paper, "Selective Private Disclosure: Is Silence Golden?"; "Consumer Responses to the Revelation of Corporate Social Irresponsibility" with Hans Christensen, Emmanuel De George, and Daniele Macciocchi (under review, revising for resubmission at Journal of Accounting Research); "Capturing Firm Economic Events" with Khrystyna Bochkay, Roman Chychyla, and Jake Krupa; and "Retool or Refresh: Board Changes Around CEO Departure" with Fabrizio Ferri and Dhananjay Nanda. Awards include the Elijah Watt Sells Award from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (2016), Arthur Andersen LLP Endowed Scholarship from the University of Miami (2015–2016), and Foote Fellow designation at the University of Miami (2011–2015). He has taught Principles of Financial Accounting (Fall 2023), Accounting for Decision-Making and Control (Spring & Summer 2023, rating 4.8/5.0), and Intermediate Accounting (Summer 2021, rating 5.0/5.0) at the University of Miami. Joffre contributes to the academic community as an ad-hoc reviewer for Review of Accounting Studies, Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Financial Economics, and conferences such as the Hawaii Accounting Research Conference and AAA meetings.
