Antonio Horne is the Chair of the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance and Professor of Theatre at Hendrix College, where he has served since 2018. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, he is a multifaceted professional encompassing roles as an educator, stage director, and producer. Horne's robust academic foundation is evidenced by his B.F.A. from United States International University earned in 1983, M.B.A. from the University of California Los Angeles in 1988, and M.F.A. from the University of Memphis in 1999. This interdisciplinary education has equipped him with expertise in musical theatre, directing, dance, movement, voice training, and arts management.
As a cornerstone of the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance, Professor Horne primarily teaches stage directing, voice and movement, and the history of musical theatre. He directs numerous productions for the Hendrix Players, the department's primary producing entity, while also managing front-of-house operations. Additionally, he specializes in choreographing intimacy scenes and contemporary stage violence for these performances. His creative research focuses on African American Theatre, LGBTQ+ Theatre, and Musical Theatre, enriching the curriculum and student experiences. Under his leadership as chair, the department has produced a variety of shows, including "Rose and the Rime" in November 2025 at Cabe Theatre, the senior capstone "Up, Down, Strange, Charmed, Beauty and Truth" in 2025, "Unity (1918)" in 2019, "The Legend of Georgia McBride" supported by the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation, the family-oriented Elephant & Piggie play in 2022, and "Dance/Play" during Homecoming & Family Weekend directed by Horne. Horne also contributes to faculty governance as department chair and member of standing committees. His dedication to practical training and innovative direction significantly impacts performing arts education at Hendrix College.
