About Archil

Archil Kobakhidze is a Professor of Theoretical Physics in the School of Physics within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney. He received his PhD in Theoretical Physics and subsequently held postdoctoral positions at the University of North Carolina from 2004 to 2006 and at the University of Melbourne from 2006 to 2012. In 2012, he joined the University of Sydney as a Senior Lecturer and ARC Future Fellow, where he founded the Theoretical Particle Physics Group and continues to lead its vibrant scientific program. Promoted to Associate Professor in 2017, Kobakhidze has previously served as Associate Head of the School of Physics. He possesses extensive experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across several universities and actively supervises PhD students in particle physics and related fields.

Kobakhidze's research spans theoretical particle physics, cosmology, and gravity, exploring fundamental questions including the origin of mass, electroweak vacuum stability, and anomalous symmetries. His contributions have advanced understanding in areas such as gravitational waves, dark matter phenomenology, primordial black holes, and beyond-Standard-Model physics. With over 180 publications and more than 4,225 citations, key works include 'Gravity is not an entropic force' (2010), 'Constraining noncommutative spacetime from GW150914' (2016), 'Quantum relaxation of the Higgs mass' (2015), 'Eliminating the LIGO bounds on primordial black hole dark matter' (2021, co-authored with C. Boehm et al.), and 'Cosmology of the companion-axion model: Dark matter, gravitational waves, and primordial black holes' (2025, co-authored with Z. Chen et al.). He has received significant funding, including an ARC Future Fellowship (FT120100010, valued at $626,593), supporting his investigations into particle phenomenology and cosmology. As a member of the Sydney Consortium for Particle Physics and Cosmology and the Particle Physics Group, Kobakhidze fosters collaborative research addressing longstanding problems in fundamental physics.
