Professor Attwell Mamvuto is an Associate Professor in Art and Design Education in the Department of Art Design and Technology Education at the University of Zimbabwe, where he serves as Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Administration. He holds a PhD, Master of Education, Bachelor of Education, Certificate of Education, and Executive Certificate in Program and Project Monitoring and Evaluation, all obtained from the University of Zimbabwe. His distinguished career at the institution includes roles as Chairperson of the Department of Teacher Education from 2013 to 2019, during which he managed teacher education programmes across all associate teachers' colleges in Zimbabwe; Deputy Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Education; Proctor; and Senior Proctor. These positions underscore his extensive leadership in academic administration and teacher training within Zimbabwe's higher education landscape.
Professor Mamvuto's research specializations encompass art curriculum, pedagogy, assessment in art education, teacher education, visual arts pedagogy, contemporary African art, art psychotherapy, curriculum development in art education, and interpretation of visual art objects. He completed his PhD in 2013 with the thesis 'Visual expression among contemporary artists: Implications for Art Education.' His scholarly output includes numerous international publications, such as 'Public art in Zimbabwe: Perspectives for the enhancement of the art and design curriculum' (International Journal of Education & the Arts, 2025), 'Metaphoric visual expressions in African art: an iconographical analysis of selected artworks by contemporary visual artists' (Visual Studies, 2024), 'Museum-school partnership: Synergizing paradigmatic engagements' (Intellect Publishing, 2024), 'Modeling an authentic multivariate assessment scheme in art and design teacher education curriculum' (Communiars, 2023), and 'Portfolio implementation for self-reflection and professional growth of students in the arts' (Visual Studies, 2021). He has served as a reviewer for international journals, editor of book manuscripts, and external examiner for local and regional universities. Additionally, Professor Mamvuto has conducted consultancy for UNICEF, VVOB, Save the Children, and the Youth Council of Zimbabwe. He holds executive board membership in the Africa Arts Association (AfrAA) and membership in the International Study Association on Teachers and Training (ISATT).
