Professor Awais Piracha is a Professor in the School of Social Sciences. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Environmental Planning and Management from the Asian Institute of Technology, a Master of Science in Regional Development Planning and Management from the University of Dortmund, a Master of Engineering Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of New South Wales, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore. His research specializations include sustainable urban development, spatial analysis in land use and transport planning, urban air pollution, urban heat island effects and human health, racism in the urban sharing economy, transport-related social exclusion, social housing, and city liveability.
Piracha has led or participated in numerous research and consultancy projects as an urban and transport planning expert for organizations including the World Bank, Transport for NSW, and the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute. He is a Corporate Member and Certified Practising Professional of the Planning Institute of Australia and a Member and National Delegate of the International Society of City and Regional Planners. He has authored or co-authored over 100 research outputs, including articles, conference papers, book chapters, and research reports.
