Axel M. Katz is a postdoctoral researcher at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. He obtained his Bachelor degree in Biology from the university in 2012 and holds a PhD in Zoology. His affiliation is with the Laboratório de Sistemática e Evolução de Peixes Teleósteos in the Departamento de Zoologia at UFRJ. Katz conducts research in zoology with a focus on evolution and phylogeny, particularly of teleost fishes.
He has co-authored numerous scientific publications on fish systematics, including descriptions of new species and phylogenetic analyses of genera such as Trichomycterus and Cambeva. Katz holds a FAPERJ Nota 10 postdoctoral fellowship. His work appears in journals including Zootaxa, Zoosystematics and Evolution, and others, and has received hundreds of citations according to academic profiles.
