About Ayumi

Ayumi Shikama serves as Assistant Professor in the Institute of Medicine at the University of Tsukuba. She earned her PhD in Medicine from the University of Tsukuba in 2016. Her research focuses on obstetrics and gynecology, with particular emphasis on gynecologic oncology, fertility-sparing treatments for epithelial ovarian cancer, molecular targeted therapies in endometrial cancer, and hereditary cancer syndromes such as Lynch syndrome and hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC). She has led or contributed to multiple research projects funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development, including studies on cell-free DNA applications and tumor microenvironment profiling.

Shikama holds numerous professional certifications, including those from the Japan Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the Japan Society of Gynecologic Endoscopy, and the Japanese Board of Medical Genetics. In 2025, she received the JSOG Distinguished Educational Achievement Award. She has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on topics such as prognostic factors in endometrial carcinoma, fertility preservation in gynecologic cancers, and management of hereditary tumors. Her work appears in journals including The Oncologist, Journal of Gynecologic Oncology, and International Journal of Gynecological Cancer. Shikama also contributes to clinical guidelines and educational efforts in cancer genomics and minimally invasive surgery within her department.
